What is Parental Guidance?
Behind every struggling youth is usually a parent or parents with concerns of their own who struggle to understand and utilize the skills to support their child. It is important that we approach parenting just as we would other important tasks in our lives – with intention and commitment. Parents play a pivotal role in fostering positive youth development. Parental guidance aims to help parents develop effective strategies and positive parental styles that foster development and growth.

A Practical Approach
We work with parents to find the best interventions and strategies for their child and to promote healthy development, both in the short and long term. Our approach will help you identify your own parenting style and provide you with practical skills that build accountability and trust. Through weekly meetings and active support from your parental guidance clinician, techniques and strategies will be shared so that parents can begin to implement new ways of managing difficult interactions and behaviors. We may also meet along with your child so the clinician can help the family to integrate the new strategies live.

Session Format
Sessions are typically done through weekly meetings. Depending on the family makeup and situations, parents and guardians may meet separately or together. Your clinician will also be available for phone consultation for further supports during times where parents struggle with finding solutions.
